The moon was waxing nearly completely when the Chile 8.2-magnitude earthquake hit. When there is a large earthquake, I like to check the cycles of the moon. It might be only coincidence, but I wouldn’t rule out the moon as provoking earthquakes.
Powerful earthquake strikes off Chile, triggers tsunami
Indonesia had a 7.3 earthquake this past January 10, 2012 (18:37 UTC)
There was a full moon which peaked January 9, 2012 (07:31 UTC).
When the earthquake struck the moon was still 97% full waxing gibbous.
In 2004, six years and one month ago, the same area was hit by the giant Indian Ocean super earthquake. It was a megathrust, over magnitude 9 (the third largest ever recorded). It created a tsunami which killed 230,000 people, one of the deadliest natural disasters in history.
That earthquake occurred December 26 2004, (00:59 UTC).
On December 26, 2004 (15:06 UTC) the moon was also full.
Only coincidence? Here is a news story about storms triggering earthquakes:
“The water’s enormous weight causes the Indian plate to bend slightly under the pressure. That, in turn, causes the edge of the plate to move slightly. “Imagine having a big book and bending it in the middle,” Ader said. “The pages want to slide against each other at the edges.”
If a typhoon or monsoon can trigger an earthquake I would suggest so could the ocean’s tides. The vast oceans put much more stress on the earth’s crust then any storm. And what influences the tides? The moon. Does the moon trigger earthquakes?
Watching the full moon these past cloudless nights I was struck by how bright and beautiful…and potentially dangerous the moon is.
Japan suffered historic, catastrophic disasters: a 9 magnitude earthquake, a horrific tsunami and then a nuclear crisis. Did Nostradamus have any quatrains that specifically referred to an Asian earthquake? There is such a line. Did it refer to Japan? You decide.
Century: 3 Quatrain: 3
Mars and Mercury, and the silver joined together,
Towards the south extreme drought:
In the depths of Asia one will say the earth trembles,
Corinth, Ephesus then in perplexity.
Mercury and Mars were in conjunction on February 20, 2011. However, this conjunction occurs nearly every year, so it is not very helpful.
“Towards the south extreme drought” This may mean the deprivation the people of Japan suffered as their nation tried to regain its footing. In the news: “Millions of people faced a fourth night without water, food or heating in near-freezing temperatures along the northeast coast devastated by Friday’s disasters.”
This line may also refer to the nuclear crisis. The nuclear reactors in crisis were just south of the earthquake’s epicenter. Water was desperately used in an attempt to cool the nuclear reactors. Even helicopters were spraying water in an attempt to dowse the reactors. There was not enough water to do the job.
“Extreme drought” could also refer to the effects of radiation poisoning south of the nuclear reactors. If farmland were contaminated by radioactivity, it would be unusable, as if in a drought. Japan radioactivity could enter food chain
Epicenter and aftershocks
In the depths of Asia one will say the earth trembles.
This is the line that made me consider this quatrain referred to Japan. The “depths of Asia” suggests a place deep inside Asia, far away from Nostradamus’ homeland of France. The “depths of Asia” may also refer to the location of the epicenter of the earthquake, which was in the ocean off the coast of Japan. “Depths of Asia” even hints at a tsunami.
Corinth, Ephesus then in perplexity.
This line is perplexing. I’m not certain what it means. Corinth was an ancient city in Greece, which shared a certain fate with Japan. Through history ancient Corinth was destroyed numerous times by earthquakes, in the years 375, 551, and 856. In 1858 the town built on ancient Corinth was totally destroyed by an earthquake. Yet, it has always been rebuilt. Perhaps the city is a metaphor for the future or Japan? That is a hopeful sign.
On March 11, 2011 (05:46:23 UTC), a historic 8.9 magnitude earthquake hit Japan, creating a massive tsunami. It was one of the largest earthquakes ever recorded. It created a 23 foot tsunami, which was even more dangerous then the earthquake.
Previously, on March 9 (23:23 UTC), a solar flare erupted, aimed straight towards the Earth. The Coronal Mass Ejection arrived shortly afterwards striking our magnetic field on March 10. A bright aurora borealis was visible that night in the northern United States. It was daylight in Japan, when at the same time the earthquake and tsunami struck.
Century: 1, Quatrain: 46
Very near Auch, Lectoure and Mirande
a great fire will fall from the sky for three nights.
The cause will appear both stupefying and marvelous;
shortly afterwards there will be an earthquake.
The quatrain mentioned areas in southern France (Auch, Lectoure and Mirande) and a fire in the sky for 3 nights. I understood this to mean the aurora borealis would be visible in an area where it’s rarely seen, farther south. Only a huge solar flare could create an aurora borealis great enough to light up the sky like fire at that latitude.
The aurora borealis occurred the same time the earthquake hit Japan, as reported here:
Their firsthand account: “The Aurora event peaked about the same time as the earth quake in Japan before Midnight local time in Minnesota.”
From the start of the solar flare until the earthquake…March 9, March 10, march 11…three nights. That the sun may have caused this would be stupefying and marvelous. Shortly afterwards, the earth will tremble, in French “la terre tremblera”.
Did the solar flare actually trigger this awful earthquake? Or was it only a coincidence that Nostradamus used as a signpost, an omen, to predict what was to happen? If the sun actually had something to do with this earthquake, then we had better beware. We are entering an active solar period, and we can expect more such flares.
I give the people of Japan my greatest sympathy for their losses.
Below is a prediction from Nostradamus, the famed 16th century prophet. What might this cryptic quatrain mean for our future? The prediction nearly came to pass recently, and may yet do so. We need to watch the skies, for a celestial event will precede a great earthquake.
Century I, Quatrain 46:
Very near Auch, Lectoure and Mirande
A great fire will fall from the sky for three nights.
The cause will appear both stupefying and marvelous;
Shortly afterwards there will be an earthquake.
Auch, Lectoure and Mirande are in southwestern France, suggesting a light (fire) will be visible in southern France for three nights. Perhaps a meteor shower? I don’t imagine any meteor shower could be described as a “great fire”. I’d suggest the “fire fall” will be the northern lights, the aurora borealis. Nostradamus’ description is an apt one for the aurora borealis. The northern lights rarely appear as far south as southern France, but it does happen. To appear for three nights suggest a powerful light show. Nostradamus foresees this event as an omen of doom.
Line 3: The cause will appear both stupefying and marvelous;
What would cause the aurora borealis to appear in a spectacular display over France? A giant solar flare that scored a direct hit on the earth could. The flare’s charged particles could potentially cause a massive aurora borealis display that would reach far south. Monster solar flares are certainly both stupefying and marvelous.
Line 4: Shortly afterwards there will be an earthquake.
Soon after this northern light display will be an earthquake worthy of predicting. I assume a very disastrous one. Perhaps Nostradamus suggests the solar flare, or disturbances on the sun, will be the cause of the earthquake.
We are now entering a cycle of increased solar flare activity. On February 14, 2011 we had our first Class X solar flare in 4 years. The Class X flares is the largest. However, a widespread aurora borealis display did not happen.
Shortly after the Class X solar flare on Feb. 14 but before the Feb. 24 flare, we had a tragic earthquake in New Zealand. On February 22 the deadly 6.3-magnitude Christchurch earthquake struck with a death toll surpassing 200.
Can the sun cause earthquakes? According to Nostradamus, we can expect an earthquake worthy of prophecy after a solar flare lights up the northern hemisphere with a spectacular three night light show. Watch the skies, and beware the ground beneath us.
MARCH 10 UPDATE: Major Solar Flare Erupts, May Make Auroras Visible in Northern U.S. “The solar flare erupted at 6:23 p.m. EST (2323 GMT), letting loose a wave of charged particles that is aimed straight at Earth and should arrive in the next few days. The sun unleashed another major solar flare Wednesday (March 9), a solar storm so powerful it could spawn dazzling northern lights displays that could be visible from even New York City.”
This story demonstrates how a solar flare predicted by Nostradamus may happen soon. We are due for an extended period of wild solar flares. Watch the skies!
MARCH 11 UPDATE: 8.9 MAGNITUDE EARTHQUAKE HITS JAPAN!
On Friday, March 11, 2011 On Friday, at 05:46:23 UTC, a historic 8.9 magnitude earthquake hit Japan, creating a tsunami.
On March 9, at 23:23 UTC, a solar flare erupted, aimed straight towards Earth. The Coronal Mass Ejection struck our magnetic field March 10. A bright Aurora Borealis were visible in the northern United States.
I was waiting for this. Would it happen again? The full moon had arrived. And when the moon is full, expect a significant earthquake. Sure enough, like clockwork, we had a 7.2 magnitude earthquake which struck Pakistan. The moon was waxing gibbous, 99% of full. The time was Tuesday January 18, 2011 at 20:23:26 UTC. Will there be more earthquakes to follow?
An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 7.2 struck Wednesday morning in a remote area of southwestern Pakistan, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.
The earthquake occurred at 1:23 a.m. (3:23 p.m. Tuesday ET) at a depth of 84 kilometers (52 miles). It was centered 45 kilometers (28 miles) west of Dalbandin; 255 kilometers (158 miles) west of Kalat; 310 kilometers (192 miles) east-southeast of Zahedan, Iran; and 1,020 kilometers (633 miles) west-southwest of Islamabad, Pakistan, the USGS said on its website.
NEW MOON EARTHQUAKE UPDATE: 7.1 EARTHQUAKE HITS CHILE
On January 2 a powerful 7.1 earthquake hit Chile. This is a day after the 7.0 earthquake in Argentina. Both happened as the moon waned new, the Chile earthquake occurring when the new moon was 1% of full. The time was Sunday, January 02, 2011 at 20:20:18 UTC. 7.1-magnitude earthquake hits Chile
I focus on major earthquakes. Minor ones happen daily. But on Jan. 3 there was a 4.5 earthquake in Southern Utah as the moon was at 0% of full, or completely dark. Earthquake Rattles Southern Utah
“The quake hit at 2:19 am local time (1719 GMT Tuesday), 153 kilometres (95 miles) east of Chichi-shima in Japan’s remote Bonin island region and at a shallow depth of just 14 kilometres.” An even bigger 7.4 earthquake has hit near Japan following the lunar eclipse. and the Iran earthquke!
We have two stories I believe are related. Tonight on this December 20 we will have a winter solstice lunar eclipse. This is a rare event, to have a lunar eclipse during the longest night of the year, the winter solstice. The last time this occurred was in 1638.
Earlier today Iran suffered a 6.3 magnitude earthquake. I was expecting something like this to happen when the full moon was approaching its lunar eclipse. This is just one more example of the power of the moon and its influence over the earth. Will there be more earthquakes to follow?
A total lunar eclipse will be visible across North America tonight, just in time for the longest night of the year. This will be the first time a lunar eclipse has fallen on the winter solstice since 1638. The Earth’s shadow will begin to blot out the moon at 1:32 am EST.
Nine aftershocks followed the 6.5 magnitude quake, which hit at least thirty villages in the southeast of the country. At least seven people have been killed in a 6.5 magnitude earthquake that jolted southeast Iran yesterday, destroying remote villages and trapping hundreds.
Last night I looked up into the sky and saw the big bright moon waxing gibbous. it was beautiful. But also dangerous. While admiring the moon, my thoughts turned to the knowledge that we often have earthquakes during the full or new moon. I wondered if we’d have another quake soon. Today, as the moon was 98% full, we had a strong 6.7 magnitude earthquake in Mexico’s Gulf of California.
“The U.S. Geological Survey said the magnitude of the quake that hit at 11:53 a.m. (1:53 p.m. EDT, 1753 GMT) was calculated as 6.7. The epicenter was about 65 miles (105 kilometers) south of Los Mochis and 85 miles (140 kilometers) northeast of La Paz in Baja California. It was at a relatively shallow depth of 6.2 miles (10 kilometers).”
On my side bar, if you scroll down, you will see a widget that gives the current phase of the moon. It’s a handy thing to check out if you ever need to know what the moon’s phase is at the minute. I did a screen print of it (pictured below) so we could see the phase at around the time of the earthquake.
I fear soon we’ll have a truly massive earthquake and the moon will be responsible. The moon is so far away but still dangerous. At least the moon gives us a warning!
DANGEROUS FULL MOON UPDATE: October 25 at 1642 GMT a 7.7 magnitude earthquake hit off the Indonesian island of Sumatra. In 2004 a disastrous earthquake and tsunami hit the same island. The moon was waxing gibbous 93% full. October 23rd the full moon was at its peak. Here is the story: Major Earthquake Strikes off Indonesia’s Sumatra Island
Here we go again. The new moon was at its peak August 10 at 03:09 UTC. A powerful 7.3 magnitude earthquake hit the pacific island nation of Vanuatu at 05:23 UTC, only a couple of hours later. In addition, the moon was at perigee later the same day at 17:57 UTC. This major earthquake was followed by numerous aftershocks.
Vanuatu appears particularly vulnerable to the tug of the sun and moon. The earthquake struck at a depth of 27 miles/35 kilometers below the earth. Perhaps the moon’s influence on the ocean’s tides can trigger earthquakes, but I doubt tides would cause a quake so deep underground.
I don’t personally believe 2012 is the end of the world. Yet, these celestially inspired earthquakes do make me wonder. Famed psychic Edgar Cayce predicted major earth changes in the future as the Earth shifted on its axis. Let’s hope he was not accurate, but there is always the possibility he was. Nothing we can do about it anyway, so why worry?
