We have another full moon earthquake. This is starting to become a regular event. Nobody seems to notice these full and new moon quakes, but I do. There was a full moon on June 26, 2010 at 11:31 GMT. In addition there was a partial lunar eclipse beginning from 1017 GMT and lasting for 3 hours. 54% of the moon was covered by the earth’s shadow at its peak at 1138 GMT. And on June 26 at 05:30 GMT there was an earthquake which struck off the Solomon Islands. It was a powerful 6.7 magnitude quake. Strong earthquake strikes off the Solomon Islands, no tsunami threat
The idea the moon has an influence over the earth is an old one. One example is in a tarot card, The Moon. The moon card shows the moon hovering above, and below are baying hounds and a crayfish crawling out of a pool of water. In the background is a pair of towers. The tarot’s moon card shows the moon having an esoteric impact on the world below.
Outside the spiritual symbolism is also a curious symbolism suggesting the moon’s ability to cause earthquakes. The towers in the background seem very similar to the destroyed tower in the tarot card titled the Tower, or the Lightning Struck Tower.
The Lightning Struck Tower appears to be struck down by lightning, but it is actually impacted by a force from the heavens. Notice the only partly cloudy sky. This mysterious force may be construed as the influence of the moon over its towers. Observe the flame-like energies in both cards. Did the tarot recognize a connection between the moon and the power of the moon to destroy towers? Lightning would never topple a stone tower. But an earthquake could, prodded by a power from the heavens…the moon!
On June 12 2010, at 11:16 GMT, the moon was at its peak new moon. When the moon is full or new, it is lined up with the sun and earth. During the full moon the sun illuminates the entire surface of the moon since it is lined up with the sun behind the earth. During the new moon the moon is covered in darkness since the moon is out in front facing the sun and we only see the moon’s darkened side.
Recently I’ve noticed earthquakes and volcanic eruptions occurring right around the new and full moon. I noticed this when the tragic Haiti earthquake occurred shortly before a solar eclipse. And the phase of the moon has once again predicted a 7+-magnitude earthquake. On the evening of the June 12, during the new moon, at 19:26 GMT a 7.5 magnitude earthquake struck the Indian Ocean triggering tsunami warnings. 7.5 is a pretty strong quake. Here is the story:
NEW DELHI (AFP) – A 7.5-magnitude earthquake struck under the Indian Ocean on Sunday, triggering a tsunami watch for nearby islands and causing tremors reportedly felt along India’s eastern seaboard. http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/indiaquake
With all the talk about the end of the world on 2012, and the silly movie of the same name, we might wonder if an alignment of celestial bodies can indeed trigger earth changes. Perhaps not on a scale as imagined, but it seems the moon is pretty effective in shaking and quaking planet earth when it is lined up with the sun. It will be interesting to see if this continues.
A 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck the South Pacific island of Vanuatu this Thursday, May 27, 2010 at 17:14:48 UTC. It has triggered tsunami warnings for the surrounding region.
There was also a full moon this May 27, at 23:08 UTC. It is only coincidence that we are having huge earthquakes when the moon is full? This is going beyond coincidence. Here is a chart of the full moons for 2010. If anyone lives in an earthquake prone region, it might be prudent to pay attention to the phases of the moon. Further Full Moon calamities: On May 27 and 28 were two huge volcanic eruptions in Guatemala and Ecuador, forcing thousands to flee their homes and the ash disrupting air traffic. Guatemala’s Pacaya volcano erupted Thursday evening (May 27) casting forth lava and ash. Friday (May 28) the volcano Tungurahua in Ecuador erupted.
On April 14 a powerful earthquake hit China in the region of Tibet. It collapsed buildings, killing hundreds and injuring thousands. It was reported 85 percent of the houses in Jiegu were destroyed. I watched the news of this terrible earthquake and I wondered what is going on. It seems like the earth is shaking in a destructive frenzy. After an earthquake, I check the skies. The Haiti earthquake happened shortly before a solar eclipse. The Chile earthquake occurred during a full moon. And this earthquake in China happened during the new moon.
The initial quake, measured at magnitude-6.9 by the U.S. Geological Survey and 7.1 by the China Earthquake Networks Center, hit Yushu at 7:49 a.m. (7:49 p.m. EDT, 2349 GMT). It was followed by five more tremors within three hours, all but one registering 5.0 or higher.
Moon Phases, April 2010
Last Quarter – April 6, 09:37
New Moon – April 14, 12:29
First Quarter – April 21, 18:20
Full Moon – April 28, 12:18
When the moon is full or new, the moon is lined up with the earth and the sun. Is it just coincidence that major earthquakes are striking at this time? Beware the moon if you live in an area that is sensitive to earthquakes. Watch the skies.
NEW MOON UPDATE: VOLCANO ERUPTS APRIL 14!
Iceland evacuates hundreds as volcano erupts again REYKJAVIK, Iceland – A volcano under a glacier in Iceland erupted Wednesday for the second time in less than a month, melting ice, spewing smoke and steam, closing a major road and forcing hundreds of people to flee rising floodwaters.
The 8.8 magnitude earthquake that struck Chile was one the most powerful in recorded history. The Chile earthquake hit on Saturday February 27 at 06:34 GMT. A curious coincidence was the earthquake occurred just before the full moon’s perigee. Perigee is when the moon is at its closest point to earth. The moon’s distance to the earth varies during its orbit and sometimes is at its closest (perigee), sometimes at its furthest (apogee). Perigee was 15 hours after the earthquake, on February 27 at 21:41 GMT. At the same time the moon was waxing 99% full.
Adding to the strangeness was a magnitude 6.9 earthquake that hit Japan a day earlier at 20:31 GMT Friday.
The moon affects our tides. The tides are strongest when the moon is full, lined up straight with the earth and sun. The result is something called a spring tide, which is when the tides are highest. When the moon is at perigee its gravitational strength is also nearly 50% greater.
Did the moon’s gravity trigger the Chile earthquake? It seems like an awfully strange coincidence. There have been theories that when the planets line up in our solar system, it will create disastrous earthquakes and earth changes. This has never happened since the planets are too far away for their gravity to have an influence on the earth. The sun and moon are a different story, as their influence on our tides show. When the conditions are just right, perhaps the stress of tidal forces on our crust can trigger the earth to shake.
Update: Thursday March 4th a 6.4 magnitude earthquake hit Taiwan, described as “This is the biggest quake to hit this region in more than a century,” according to the director of the Central Weather Bureau’s Seismology Center.
