When the moon is full or new, I keep an eye out for large earthquakes. On January 1, 2011, the beginning of the New Year, the moon was waning 6% of full.
On this day was a 7.0 magnitude earthquake in Santiago Del Estero, Argentina. Luckily the quake was deep beneath the earth and did little damage.

NEW MOON EARTHQUAKE UPDATE: 7.1 EARTHQUAKE HITS CHILE
On January 2 a powerful 7.1 earthquake hit Chile. This is a day after the 7.0 earthquake in Argentina. Both happened as the moon waned new, the Chile earthquake occurring when the new moon was 1% of full. The time was Sunday, January 02, 2011 at 20:20:18 UTC. 7.1-magnitude earthquake hits Chile
I focus on major earthquakes. Minor ones happen daily. But on Jan. 3 there was a 4.5 earthquake in Southern Utah as the moon was at 0% of full, or completely dark. Earthquake Rattles Southern Utah
It is curious that this has happened just before a partial solar eclipse on January 4. Quite curious! Partial solar eclipse visible over Mideast, Europe
